Auto accidents can be a pain in the neck, literally. Dr. Zvirbliss and I have seen a big increase in the number of people who have been involved in either fender benders, or more serious auto accidents recently with the weather changing to ice and snow.
First and foremost if you get involved in an automobile accident, it is imparative that you get an xray of the neck or lower back. This is the only way to see if you have ligamentous damage. An MRI will be ordered to see if you have a disc injury.
Alot of these accidents seem like “no big deal”, but the pain and impairment can effect you for many years to come if you don’t correct the underlying problem. The best way for me to explain this, to compare it to a heart attack. If you have a heart attack today, that means the underlying problem was probably going on for years, however you didn’t feel the pain for years, you felt the pain of the heart attack.
Same goes for automobile accidents. You can have underlying ligamentous sprain/strains, or your muscles just feel sore, but those same problems, turn into bigger problems down the road.
Time is off the essence when involved in an auto accident. Research shows the faster you take care of muscles, ligaments, and discs, the faster you will heal.
Please….be safe on the roads !
Pinched nerve ? Well we can help. Dr. Zvirbliss, has seen his fair share of different things in private practice. From “pinched nerve” to “pinched disc”. Can you have a pinched nerve? Yes and No….let me explain.
A pinched nerve is very difficult to have, however, it can happen. Most of the time, it is compressed. Medically it’s called a nerve root compression. This can be painfull. Patients will experience sharp/stabby pain in the area or sometimes they feel like pins/needles going down into the arm or leg. These are all symptoms of a “pinched nerve”.
Now more importantly research also shows us that the nerve can be trapped in between muscles, as the nerve makes it way down to different body parts. When the nerve is trapped like that, it can feel the same pins/needles feeling.
Remove the pressure off the nerve, then the pins/needles feeling goes away. Problem is it takes several treatments, from 8 to 20 sessions. It’s up to you though, do you want to get to the cause of the problem, or just take a pill to cover up the symptoms.
Remember pinched nerves, can happen anywhere along the spine. In the neck, midback, or low back. The tingling feeling can travel into the arm or leg. So make sure you seek a chiropractors help. Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions.
Dr. Zvirblis and I, have treated neck pain for many years. Unfortunately most people wait to come in to see us, after suffering for many years. I have had the chance to work with primary care doctors and specialized pain management doctors and co-treated with them neck pain. The medical doctors have no good answers for neck pain. All they have is medical pills, which is not the solution. The pain docs and the primary care doctors now refer us these people these neck pain patients.
Neck pain can be caused by many things. If it is a bone pinching a nerve then you need to come visit Dr. Z, especially if neck pain is caused by an automobile accident or trauma. We have xrays available to see the bones.
Now just be careful, neck pain can end up causing headaches, and radiating pain, and shoulder pain. As I have said, if you find out the underlying cause of the neck pain, and treat that, don’t just cover it up with medications.
How do you get lower back pain? That’s a good question, but not with many good answers. There are many reasons get lower back pain, and that is why it is important to find out and understand what is causing the lower back pain.
Is it muscular, ligamentous, disc, cancer ?
If one can understand the basic underlying CAUSE of the symptom “low back pain”, then there are effective ways to treat it. Back Pain causes misery , and why would anyone want to live in misery.
There are many different treatments, chiropractic has been shown to be one of the best treatments for low back pain. Epidural steroid injections also help. Physical therapy to rehabilitate the muscles is always necessary. You want to “fix” the problem, and then “lock in the muscles”
Hopefully this helps you better understand lower back pain causes and treatment options.
Migraines & Chiropractic
Migraines can be a terrible experience for most people. Over the last 13 years I have heard some horrible symptoms associated with migraines. The worst part is that even though you could get past the pain of the migraine, the migraines make it impossible to function your everyday life.
I remember Betty came in with tears in her eyes. She just couldn’t do it anymore. She was on the brink. The migraines prevented her from going to work, being with her kids, cooking for her family. She was incapacitated. She tried multiple over the counter drugs, and prescription drugs. It was always hit and miss if they would work.
Betty actually said that she “wished she was dead” ! Now fortunately I personally don’t get migraines but when Betty made that statement, it struck a cord and a I realized how horrible this must be for her.
We evaluated her and found that part of the puzzle maybe the very top vertebrae irritating her spinal cord. The bone was compressing on the nerve, which went to her head, and the nerves went behind her eyes. After evaluating her, we applied gentle treatments to her neck, and over 2 months she felt like “a whole new person”.
We didn’t cure the migraines for Betty, but we could control them and help her. Now whenever she felt like one was coming on, she would get treated by removing the “interference” of the nerve. It’s better than taking the powerful drugs she was on, which didn’t work.
Hopefully you enjoyed this blog about migraines and found it helpful.
Now that all the elections are over, and Obamacare is going to go into full effect.
The healthcare affordability act is noble at heart, and will cover more people, however all the paperwork that will be involved will defintely be a pain in the neck.
If you, becuase of paperwork, or simply work, have neck pain, headaches, or pinched nerve in your neck, it is vital that you get that checked out. And when I mean checked out, I don’t mean just talk to a doctor, you want to find the underlying cause, get xrays so we can see inside the body. Like they say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Come see us and we will examine and take some xrays and try and find what the underlying cause is. Then we can design a plan to get you back to living.
Back Pain is one of the most difficult symptoms to treat by the medical doctors. I have hired many MD, my experience, and research shows that doctors of chiropratic are better at evaluating and treating low back pain, than medical doctors and/or physical therapists.
Listen, I know it hurts, and I know that other people don’t really understand how much pain you are really in. After all you look “okay” on the outside. And then you always think, maybe it will go away. BE carefull.
The longer you leave back pain untreated it can cause nerve damage, like sciatica, or pinched nerves, spastic muscles, and even effect the spinal cord. Organs like bladder control can get effected.
If your pain lasts more than three days, then get evaluated/checked. Make sure the Doctor takes Xrays, there is no way by just talking to a person can you find out what the true underlying cuase is.
Call me if you need help. I am here to serve all your back pain needs.
